As many of you know Pete recently developed a type of allergic reaction to the sun and/or
the sun’s reflection on the water. We have been experimenting with different natural remedies as we believe is an auto-immune issue known to be aggravated by free radicals. Most sunscreens contain toxic ingredients or endocrine disrupting chemicals that in many cases may actually promote skin cancer growth and free radical production in the body. Below is a recipe for natural homemade sunscreen. What I love about this option is you can choose your scent or omit it and keep it somewhat fragrance free. If you choose a fragrance, men can use a more manly oil such as balsam or nutmeg while women can use lavender or lemongrass. Enjoy!
Natural Homemade Sunscreen Ingredients:
1/2 cup almond or olive oil (can infuse with herbs first if desired)
1/4 cup coconut oil (natural SPF 4)
1/4 cup beeswax
2 Tablespoons Zinc Oxide
(This is a non-nano version that won’t be absorbed into the skin. Be careful not to inhale the powder). This makes a natural SPF of 20+ or more can be added.
Optional: 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
Optional: 2 tablespoons Shea Butter (natural SPF 4-5)
Optional: Essential Oils of your preference
Combine ingredients except zinc oxide in a pint sized or larger glass jar. A mason jar works great or glass jar from pickles, olives or other foods.
Fill a medium saucepan with a couple inches of water and place over medium heat.
Put a lid on the jar loosely and place in the pan with the water. As the water heats, the ingredients in the jar will start to melt. Shake or stir occasionally to incorporate. When all ingredients are completely melted, add the zinc oxide, stir in well and pour into whatever jar or tin you will use for storage. Small mason jars (pint size) are great for this. It will not pump well in a lotion pump. Stir a few times as it cools to make sure zinc oxide is incorporated. Use as you would regular sunscreen. Best if used within six months. Reapply after swimming or sweating.
Pickled Pike. This recipe requires time and effort but is well worth it!
1 cup white vinegar
3/4 cup white sugar
3 bay leaves
4 whole cloves
1/2 tsp. whole allspice
1 tsp. whole mustard seed
1/2 tsp. whole black peppercorns
1/2 cup sweet white wine
1 cup pickling salt
2 qt. cold water
1 lb. skinless pike, bones removed, cut into 1 inch chunks
1 1/2 – 2 cups additional white vinegar
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1/2 lemon, thinly sliced
Combine 1 cup vinegar, sugar, bay leaves, cloves allspice, mustard seed and peppercorns in a saucepan. Bring ingredients to a boil and reduce heat. Simmer for 5 minutes. Cool. Add wine. Pour into a plastic or glass container. Let pickling syrup sit at room temperature for 4 days.
The next day, go fishing for pike! (or pull some out of your freezer ).
Mix pickling salt with cold water; stir thoroughly to dissolve salt. Pour over cutup skinless fish and refrigerate 48 hours. Once that is complete, rinse fish with cold water and cover fish chunks with vinegar. Refrigerate for 24 hours.
Drain fish and discard vinegar. Loosely layer fish, onion and lemon in glass or plastic containers. Completely cover with pickling syrup and cover tightly. Refrigerate for five days, stirring once or twice during that time.
Pickling is done. Pickled pike may be stored covered with the pickling syrup in a closed container in refrigerator for up to 5 weeks. Makes approximately 2 qt.

If you are like most busy people finding time to sit and relax can be very difficult. What if I told you that you just might be able to find time to relax simply by using AMSOIL Signature Series Motor Oil? How you say? Read on!
When you use AMSOIL Signature Series you will only need to change your oil every 25,000 miles instead of every 3,000. That’s just ONE oil change instead of EIGHT! The average time you spend getting your oil changed is about 2 hours, which means on average, you gain about 14 extra hours a year using AMSOIL! Before being introduced to AMSOIL I was terrible at getting my car into the shop for its oil changes every 3,000 miles. Sometimes it was so bad, my car would be near 6,000 miles before I’d find the time to change the oil and, as you know is bad for your vehicle’s engine longevity and performance. I love AMSOIL because now I only have to change my oil once a year! We use AMSOIL products in all of our engines such as our boat, lawnmower and snow blower.
Now that you I’ve shared with a way you can save time, what better way to use that new free time than relaxing in these comfy folding chairs! They come with a carrying case and include arm rests and two cup holders. Constructed with 600 denier fabric and 19 mm powder-coated frame. Provides maximum 330-lb. capacity.
